Carter, Mike. 2011. One Man and His Bike. Ebury Press.
This book reads like part travel log and part enlightenment. As Mike Carter cycles his way around the coast of Britain, he takes on a wide variety of terrains and meets an interesting collection of people. Most of all, he gets to know himself.
At one point, he describes an office-wall sign that reads: Assume Goodwill. As Carter writes:
… without any conscious awareness, that was exactly the mindset I had slipped into on this journey: approaching people assuming that they would be friendly, would want to help. And that’s generally what happened.
As you ride along on Carter’s journey, you’ll find yourself slipping into similar feelings. Hopefully, reading this will help you to always assume goodwill.
